Kingwood Ultras
Kingwood Ultras is a trail running event held near Frenchtown, New Jersey that uses a short loop format. The course is a roughly two-mile circuit at Horseshoe Bend Park that runs through forest and open field and crosses small streams and wooden bridges.
Distances and timed events offered include:
- 100 Mile
- 48 Hour
- 24 Hour
- 50 Mile
- 12 Hour
- Marathon
- 6 Hour
- 10K (Saturday and Sunday options)
The loop is quasi-technical with roots, rocks, and stream crossings. Each lap includes about 300 feet of elevation gain, so elevation accumulates over long efforts. The route is marked at night with glow sticks and reflective ribbons, and mileage markers appear every quarter mile.
Support is centered on a single Base Camp aid station located along the loop, so runners pass a central support area every two miles. The aid station provides standard ultra fare plus sit-down breakfast, lunch, and dinner service during the weekend. Each entrant receives a 10 by 10 foot Base Camp space with nearby parking and access to porta-potties; limited indoor-style sleeping cots are available first come, first served. The race is cup free, so runners must bring their own drinking vessel.
Finishers receive handcrafted wood-based awards and longer distance finishers may receive reclaimed-wood belt buckles. A portion of registration fees supports Friends of Horseshoe Bend Park. The event is organized by Spirit Trips. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
