About the race
KingWood Ultras is a multi-day trail event held September 11–13, 2026, near Frenchtown, New Jersey, at Horseshoe Bend Park. The course is a two-mile loop that runs through forest and open field, crosses small streams, and uses wooden bridges. Distances and formats offered include: - 100 Mile - 48 Hour timed event - 24 Hour timed event - 50 Mile - 12 Hour timed event - Marathon - 6 Hour timed event - 10K on Saturday - 10K on Sunday The loop is quasi-technical with roots and rocks underfoot and about 300 feet of elevation gain per lap.
The short-loop format returns runners to a single Base Camp every two miles, so crews and gear stay nearby. The course is marked for night running with glow sticks and reflective ribbons, and mileage markers appear every quarter mile. Support centers on one main aid station at Base Camp. Aid offerings include standard ultra food such as fruit, cookies, candy, chips, PB&J, potatoes, water, sports drink, and soda, plus breakfast, lunch, and dinner service across the weekend.
Each entrant receives a 10 by 10 foot Base Camp space with nearby parking and access to porta-potties; limited indoor sleeping cots are available on a first come, first served basis. The race is cup free, so runners must bring their own bottle or cup. Organizers are Spirit Trips and a portion of registration fees supports Friends of Horseshoe Bend Park.
Finishers receive handcrafted wood awards and longer distance finishers may receive handcrafted wood belt buckles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
