Kilworth Backyard Ultra
Kilworth Backyard Ultra is a loop-based ultra event in Kilworth Woods, County Cork. The course is a 6.7 km loop with about 125 m of elevation gain per lap. The route is fully marked and mostly on wide paths with a few short sections of narrower forest trails. Marshals will direct participants for the first laps. There are no aid stations along the course; water and light refreshments are provided near the start/finish corral.
The format follows the backyard ultra rules: runners complete the same loop repeatedly, are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop within the allotted hour or fail to start the next loop, and the race continues until one runner remains. Crews are allowed at the base camp only; no outside aid is permitted on the course. Trekking poles are not permitted.
Entry information lists an entry fee of €50 and a limit of 100 places. Entries open Sunday 19 July 2026 and close Friday 11 September 2026.
Mandatory kit is Level C - Advanced. Required items include a waterproof jacket with hood, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map and compass.
