Kill the Hill 5K Vassar
Kill the Hill is a community 5K run/walk in Vassar, Michigan. The course begins in downtown Vassar, climbs the M-15 hill, and finishes near the Cass River area pavilion and downtown. The route is noted for highlighting Vassar’s natural features, local businesses, and community character. The course will be marked with signs produced by Cold Sky Apparel Co that include historical information about Vassar’s past as a logging community and efforts by the local Historical Society and Vassar Museum to preserve that history. The event notes the 40th anniversary of the 1986 flood in Vassar.
A youth "fun run" for children ages 3-17 is held at the T. North Pavilion; all participants under 17 must have an accompanying adult sign the event waiver. The fun run does not include a separate shirt.
Participant shirts for the main event are produced in partnership with Cold Sky Apparel Co. Shirt sizes are requested during registration and shirts made for participants prior to the race. Registrations completed before September 1, 2026 will have shirts available at packet pickup before the event on September 20, 2026. Registrations after September 6, 2026 might not receive a race shirt on race day; a very limited number of shirts will be available for purchase at the event. Additional race shirts may be ordered through Cold Sky Apparel Co.
Registration pricing listed for early bird rates before August 1, 2026 is Youth (ages 3-17) $25 plus processing fee and Adults (18+) $35 plus processing fee; a $10 rate increase applies after August 1, 2026. Proceeds for 2026 are designated to support making the event annual, restoring the Vassar Chamber of Commerce, and supporting additional local events. Sponsorship options include a Friend of the Race level and several a la carte sponsor placements such as bib, mile marker, medal, water station, kid zone, DJ/MC, fruit, printing, raffle prizes, and photography sponsors.
