Events at Waterfront Park
The Kicking Butt 5K Run/Walk takes place at Waterfront Park near the Big Four Bridge in downtown Louisville. Participants travel along scenic paved park trails and surfaces. This event focuses on raising awareness for colorectal and rectal cancer, supporting survivors, and highlighting the importance of family medical history and early screening.
Participants can choose from several event distances and formats:
- 5K Run/Walk (3.1 miles): A chip-timed race on paved trails with awards for overall and age group winners.
- 1 Mile Walk: An untimed walk on paved surfaces starting shortly after the 5K event.
- FREE Kid's Dash (400 yards): A non-timed fun run for children ages 9 and under.
- Virtual Runner/Walker (3.1 miles): A remote participation option for those unable to attend in person.
The event includes several features such as commemorative race shirts, free race photos, and a Healthy Village area. The 5K race is chip-timed, with awards presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 12 and under to 80 and over.
Walkers, strollers, and dogs on fixed-length leashes are permitted on the course. A specific "Daisy" award is presented for the best-dressed dog. Children participating in the free dash receive a participation medal, though shirts and bibs are reserved for the longer distances. Packet pickup is available both the day before the event and on the morning of the races at the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
