Kettlefoot - Mountain City, TN
Kettlefoot is a trail race held at the Doe Mountain Recreation Area near Mountain City, Tennessee. The event offers three distance options and is USATF sanctioned. The course includes extensive climbing and access to the 60-foot Kettlefoot Fire Tower, which provides 360° panoramic views across Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Registration is online through UltraSignup; there is no paper registration. Entry fees range from $48.50 to $71.56 (USD). The registration fee covers use of the facility, aid stations, a finisher award, and post-race food. T-shirts are available as an optional add-on. There are no refunds; entries may be transferred to another runner for use the same year until May 22, 2027. Pregnancy and postpartum deferral is allowed for up to two years under Trail Sisters Approved standards; no other deferrals are offered.
Course distances:
- 50K - ~31 miles, ~5,500 feet elevation gain, 10.5 hour cutoff
- 25K - ~15 miles, ~2,750 feet elevation gain, 7.5 hour cutoff
- 13K - ~8.8 miles, ~1,600 feet elevation gain, 4 hour cutoff
Early packet pickup is available Friday evening; on-site check-in and packet pickup are available race morning. Vehicle camping on DMRA property may be permitted, with arrangements handled by the race director. Local short-term rentals and several campgrounds are nearby, including Doe Valley Campground and R&D Campground. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
