Event Overview
The Kessel Run Ultra takes place in the North Fruita Desert, Colorado. The event site is located near the 18 Road Parking area in Fruita, offering views of the San Juan Mountains and the Colorado National Monument. Participants run through high desert terrain consisting of singletrack trails and the various elevations of the Zippity-Do-Da Trail.
Course Information
The race features multiple distances on trail surfaces. All routes start on singletrack and include various sections of technical ups and downs. This is a cupless event, meaning runners must bring their own containers, such as bottles or bladders, to be filled at hydration stations located at the start, finish, and along the course.
Available distances include:
- 50 Mile: Features 5,177 feet of elevation gain and loss.
- 40 Mile: Features 4,090 feet of elevation gain and loss.
- 50K: Features 3,438 feet of elevation gain and loss.
- 20 Mile: Features 2,034 feet of elevation gain and loss.
- 10 Mile: Features 1,086 feet of elevation gain and loss.
Logistics and Participation
Packet pickup is available at the start line the day before the event and on the morning of the race. A photo ID is required to collect race materials. Participants receive a custom shirt, a technical trucker hat, and a finisher's medal. Electronic timing is used via a chip attached to the runner's shoe. Snack and drink options are provided at the finish line. Camping is available at the North Fruita Desert through the BLM at a designated campground near the start and finish area.
