Kessel Run Ultra

Kessel Run Ultra is a trail ultramarathon held in the North Fruita Desert near Fruita, Colorado. The event offers multiple distances and uses fast, flowing singletrack with sections on the Zippity Do Da Trail that include steep climbs and descents. The course passes through high desert terrain with views toward the San Juan Mountains and the Colorado National Monument.

Course statistics by distance are provided by the organizer. Examples from course materials include:

  • 50 Mile: lowest point 5031 ft, highest point 5541 ft, elevation gain 5177 ft and elevation loss 5177 ft.
  • 40 Mile: lowest point 5030 ft, highest point 5541 ft, elevation gain 4090 ft and elevation loss 4090 ft.
  • 50K: lowest point 5030 ft, highest point 5541 ft, elevation gain 3438 ft and elevation loss 3438 ft.
  • 20 Mile: lowest point 5030 ft, highest point 5541 ft, elevation gain 2034 ft and elevation loss 2034 ft.
  • 10 Mile: lowest point 5030 ft, highest point 5503 ft, elevation gain 1086 ft and elevation loss 1086 ft.

This is a cupless event. Water dispensers are located at the start/finish area and at every aid station for filling bladders, bottles, and reusable cups. Parking is at designated special events areas near 18 Road Parking; the start/finish is across the street from that parking area. Fee camping is available in BLM campgrounds at the North Fruita Desert via recreation.gov.

Packet pickup occurs the day before the race and on race morning. Photo ID is required for packet pickup. Entries are non-transferable and runners must attach timing chips to their shoes for times to be recorded. Race photos and results are published by the organizer after the event.
