About the race
The Kessel Run 5K is part of the May the 4th - Louisiana festival held on May 1, 2027 in Downtown Houma, Louisiana. The event features a night-time, glow-themed course through downtown and lists a 5K distance. Organizers note that costumes are encouraged and that the race is open to runners and walkers.
The festival combines Star Wars fandom with regional culture and supports local high school band programs. Registration proceeds are used to provide grants and resources for those music programs. This edition marks the seventh year of the May the 4th - Louisiana event and includes a full day of music, food, costume activities, and community events, with live music by Shorts in December noted as a featured act.
Registration details include an early bird period from December 1, 2026 to February 2, 2027 at a $30 fee, with regular registration beginning February 3, 2027 at $35. Registrants who register by April 15, 2027 are guaranteed a race T-shirt. Festival activities around the race listed by organizers include a Roux Wars cook-off, Wookiee Calling Contest, costume competitions, and local vendors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
