Girls on the Run Bayou Region 5K

5K Celebration - Confidence through Accomplishment

Girls on the Run Bayou Region closes each season with a celebratory 5K event called the Reindeer Run 5K. The event is scheduled for December 5, 2026 at the Terrebonne Parish Courthouse, 7850-7864 West Main St., Houma, LA 70360.

The event is framed as a closing celebration that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The course length is 3.1 miles and the council presents the event as non-competitive; participants are invited to walk, run, roll, push or skip at their own pace. Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a commemorative medal. A short-sleeve race t-shirt is provided for every entrant, with sizes not guaranteed after November 15.

Logistics and accessibility information notes that packet pick up takes place at the registration desk on the day of the event. Parking is available in downtown Houma public parking areas; parking along the road is restricted because the race route runs there. The 5K course is described as accessible for people with disabilities, and designated parking spots are available.

A virtual 5K option is offered so participants can complete 3.1 miles at a location of their choice. The event uses Running Buddies for participant support; parents or guardians may serve as Running Buddies. Liability waivers are required for all registrations. The council sells merchandise at the event and lists national partners including Adidas, Gamma Phi Beta, BAND and Fleet Feet. Volunteers support operations with roles such as set-up, registration, course marshals, Running Buddies and water stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
