Kennekuk Road Runners - Dogs & Cats
On May 16, 2026, Kennekuk Road Runners holds a dogs and cats event at Kennekuk County Preserve - Hideaway, 22296 Henning Rd, Danville, IL 61834. The event includes running and walking options and supports the Vermilion County Animal Shelter.
The event offers two options:
- 5K - Howl at the Moon Loop only
- 5 hour event - up to five hours on the Howl Loop or the Lake Mingo Trail
Published registration fees show the 5K at $35 and the 5 hour event at $30. A special first responder registration category is available for certified first responders; this category is discounted and requires participants to agree to stop and provide assistance in the event of a medical emergency. A separate first responder registration fee is listed as $0.
A small number of T shirts will be available for purchase onsite for cash. Food for participants in the 5 hour event is planned and will be served after the event concludes; menu items noted include burgers and potato salad.
The Vermilion County Animal Shelter will have animals on site. Donations are requested for the shelter; examples listed are pet food, newspaper, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, grooming items, and collars and leashes. Kennekuk Road Runners turns over every penny of profit to the dogs and cats, and the organizer will pay the adoption fees for the first adoption.
