Kennebec Mountain Run

The Kennebec Mountain Run is a trail race located in the La Plata Mountains of southwest Colorado. This event takes place near Hesperus, with a course that travels through high-altitude terrain. The race was established in 2001 and operates as a non-profit event, with proceeds supporting La Plata County Search and Rescue.

The course features a single distance:

  • 15 miles through rugged alpine trails.

Participants experience a total elevation gain of 3,100 feet throughout the run. The route reaches a peak elevation of 12,200 feet as it passes through Kennebec Pass. The geography of the course provides views of the Animas River valley and the Dolores River valley. During the time of the event, alpine wildflowers are typically in bloom along the path.
