Course, awards and purpose
The course combines urban and natural sections. The route follows Kenmore Boulevard to the south end of Summit Lake, connects to the Towpath via the Summit Lake Trail, crosses the lake by a bridge past Summit Lake Nature Center and Summit Lake Park, crosses the Ohio & Erie Canal on a second bridge, then proceeds along the north side of the lake and returns on Kenmore Boulevard to the finish. The finisher medal includes a literal cowbell with a ringer. Runners who complete five Akron Promise City Series races receive a specially designed medal by an Akron artist. Proceeds support resources, mentorship and post-secondary scholarships for Akron Public School students in Kenmore and surrounding communities.
