Kelso Ascension Challenge
The Kelso Ascension Challenge is an endurance trail running event at Kelso Conservation Area on September 19, 2026. The course uses a timed-loop format and highlights the escarpment trail network with steep climbs, flowing descents and varied surfaces.
Race formats include:
- 1 hour individual timed 2 km loop
- 2 hour individual timed 5 km loop
- 4 hour individual timed 5 km loop
- 6 hour individual timed 5 km loop
- 6 hour four person relay
- 500 m children’s vertical race for ages 6 to 10
Course conditions may include dirt, gravel, roots, technical sections, mud and loose terrain. Aid stations on course will be stocked with water, electrolytes and snacks; no plastic cups are supplied so participants are asked to bring a collapsible cup or reusable bottle. The event uses professional chip timing and all finishers receive a finisher’s medal. Awards will be presented to top male, female, and non binary finishers in each timed category, to top relay teams, and to top youth in the children’s race.
Race kits include a bib and event swag; 4 hour and 6 hour kits also include a free meal ticket. Parking, washrooms and race support will be located near Ascension HQ at the West Lodge. The event will proceed rain or shine. Registration closes the day before the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
