KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk
The KC Blind All-Stars Foundation 5K Run & 1-Mile Walk is a community sports event held at the Kansas State School for the Blind campus in Kansas City. The event serves as a benefit for the Kansas City Blind All-Stars (KCBAS) and the Kansas State School for the Blind, supporting athletic opportunities, equipment, and programs for visually impaired youth.
The event offers several participation options:
- 5K Run (In-person and virtual)
- 1-Mile Walk (In-person and virtual)
The race course is located on the school campus and surrounding streets. The 1-mile route is an out-and-back course, while the 5K follows a loop. The terrain is described as hilly and is accessible for participants of various abilities. Registration for the event includes a race t-shirt, a finisher medal, a race bib, and post-race refreshments.
Proceeds from the event fund diverse initiatives including STEM activities like Space Camp, the Braille Challenge, the Mobile Accessible Sports Unit, and performance arts. These programs aim to enhance employment options, education, and independent living skills for students who are blind or visually impaired. The foundation also provides scholarships to assist post-secondary students with their education. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
