Event Overview

The Katie’s 5K Scholarship Road Race is an in-person road race held annually on Memorial Day in Boylston, Massachusetts. The event features a 5K distance with two participant categories: one for ages 12 and up, and a separate category for ages 11 and under.

Location & Details

The race starts and finishes at Boylston Common on 10 Church Street. The town of Boylston hosts Memorial Day events, and the common is described as a location for the race and a place for participants to spend time with family and friends.

The race is organized by the Boylston Lions Club, which took over stewardship of the event in 2018. It was originally renamed in 2008 in memory of Katie Chalifoux, a former Tahanto Regional High School student and teacher.

Race Purpose & Features

The primary purpose of the event is to fundraise for scholarships and charitable donations. Proceeds support the Katie Chalifoux Scholarships for female students from Tahanto Regional High School, the Boylston Lions Club Scholarships, and donations to Veterans, Inc. in Worcester.

Participants are encouraged to form or join teams. Prizes are awarded to the top two fastest teams (based on the first five finishers per team) and to the team with the most participants. A race shirt is guaranteed for those who register by a specified date in early May. Registration for the event opens on March 1. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
