Kangaroo Hoppet
The Kangaroo Hoppet is an annual cross country ski event held in Falls Creek on the third Saturday of August. Each year over 1000 skiers of different nationalities, ages and abilities take part on Falls Creek’s groomed trail network that extends into the Bogong High Plains in Australia’s Alpine National Park.
The event includes multiple race distances:
- 42 km Kangaroo Hoppet, the signature race and a Worldloppet member.
- 21 km Australian Birkebeiner.
- 7 km Joey Hoppet.
The 42 km race attracts elite competitors from Australia and overseas as well as recreational skiers who aim to complete a long-distance course. Spectators can gather in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl and view participants at both the start and the finish areas.
Organisers note an environmental change to drink stations: plastic cups are no longer provided on course. Competitors are expected to carry a personal drink bottle or hydration pack; water and 32Gi are available at refill stations.
Event information provided by the organisers covers event fees, registration, course descriptions, race briefings and bib collection details for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
