Roads are not closed to vehicle traffic. Runners must remain on the road shoulder (bicycle lane) or on sidewalks when available and must not cross the white fog line into traffic. Both distances use out and back courses located on the upland side of the road for both directions.
The minimum age for either distance is 13 years. There are no time limits; the course does not close at a specific time and the finish line remains open until the last runner finishes. The marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifying event and serves as the RRCA Alaska State Marathon Championship.
Sportstats provides chip timing with ankle strap timers; live, online, and onsite results are available. Ankle straps must be returned to avoid a fee and are collected by volunteers in the finish chute. All finishers receive a finisher medal and a technical shirt. Shirt sizing is only guaranteed for registrations completed by June 1.
Aid is provided at three stations for half marathoners and at two additional stations for marathoners; aid stations supply water, Gatorade, and Gu and are encountered twice on the out and back routes. Restrooms are at the start/finish area and near aid stations 1 and 3, with two additional facilities on the marathon course.
Packet pickup and late registration occur the day before at Nugget Alaskan Outfitter and on race day at the Pioneer Pavilion. There is ample free parking close to the start and finish. Registration is online only. Base pricing is Half Marathon $60 and Marathon $85. Price increases of $5 occur at scheduled dates before the race.
