Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon
The Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon takes place on Douglas Island, across Gastineau Channel from Juneau, Alaska. Both races follow out-and-back, USATF-certified courses on the Douglas and North Douglas Highways. The marathon serves as the RRCA Alaska State Marathon Championship and is a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.
The event is held on open roads where runners share the space with vehicle traffic. Participants are required to remain on the road shoulder or sidewalk when available and must stay on the upland side of the road in both directions. There are no time limits for either distance; the finish line remains open until the final participant completes the course.
Available distances include:
- 26.2 miles (Marathon)
- 13.1 miles (Half-Marathon)
The terrain consists of rolling hills and offers views of the water and the Mendenhall Glacier. Aid stations are situated along the route, with three stations for the half-marathon and five for the marathon. These stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, and energy gels. Restroom facilities are available at the start and finish area, as well as at specific intervals along the course.
Timing is managed via electronic ankle strap chips. All participants who finish the race receive a medal and a technical shirt. Post-race food is provided at the Pioneer Pavilion. Parking is available near the start and finish area, and the location is accessible via the city bus system. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
