The Halloween Half & 5k are out-and-back races that start at the Pioneer Road trailhead at the north end of North Douglas Highway in Juneau. The event includes two distances:
- 13.1 miles half marathon

The course is run on the shoulders of North Douglas Highway and Fish Creek Road; participants should be mindful of traffic.
Facilities at the start area include parking at the Pioneer Road trailhead or on the road nearby, a food and drink table, and a porta-potty. There is no aid station on the 5k course. Half marathoners have an aid station at the halfway turnaround on Fish Creek Road offering water, Gatorade, a healthy snack, and candy.
The event emphasizes costumes rather than speed; there are no prizes for finishing time, only for costume.
