About the race
Halloween Half Scare-a-Thon and 5k take place from the Pioneer Road trailhead at the north end of North Douglas Highway in Juneau. Both courses are out and back and use the shoulder of the roadway on the mountain side; runners and walkers must stay inside the fog line and remain on the shoulder in both directions. Both races start together from the highway and head toward False Outer Point. 5 km runners use a marked turnaround and return to the start.
Half marathon runners continue to Eaglecrest/Fish Creek Road, turn right, proceed to the one mile marker, and return to the start. There is no aid station on the 5 km course. Half marathoners have an aid station at the halfway turnaround on Fish Creek Road offering water, Gatorade, a healthy snack, and candy. Facilities at the start and finish include a food and drink table and a porta-potty.
Organizers request parking on the water side of the highway to keep the shoulder clear. Walkers are welcome and may be invited to start early. Registration fees listed are Adults $15 and Youth 18 and under $5; JTRR members in good standing receive a $5 discount. The event is designated as a JTRR event and an NAO Cup event.
