Halloween Half & 5k - Race details
The event offers two race distances that start from the Pioneer Road trailhead at the north end of North Douglas Highway in Juneau, Alaska. Both courses are out and back on the shoulders of North Douglas Highway and Fish Creek Road. Parking is available at the Pioneer Road trailhead parking lot or on the road nearby; the trailhead is located past the Rainforest Trail and False Outer Point.
- 13.1 miles half marathon out and back
- 5k out and back
5k runners follow a marked turnaround on the road and return to the start. Half marathon runners continue onto Eaglecrest/Fish Creek Road, turn right, proceed to the one mile marker, and return via the same route. There is no aid station on the 5k course. Half marathoners have an aid station at the halfway turnaround on Fish Creek Road offering water, Gatorade, a healthy snack, and candy. A food and drink table and a porta-potty will be available near the start area.
The route is run on roadway shoulders, so participants should be mindful of traffic and exercise caution when passing others. Late October weather in Juneau can vary widely from sun to cold, wet, or snowy conditions; dress and consider footwear traction accordingly.
