Joshua Tree Half Marathon
The Joshua Tree Half Marathon is a night race that takes place near Joshua Tree, California at Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground. The route runs through desert terrain under the stars and uses colored lights to mark the finish area.
The course is a sandy trail loop on dirt roads with rolling sections and loose rocks. Notable course data include an elevation gain of 589 ft and a maximum elevation of 2,823 ft. Much of the route follows local roads named Sunfair Rd, Center Ave, Winters Rd, Mt Shasta Ave, Sonora Rd, and Coyote Valley Rd. Runners should expect soft sand in many places and uneven footing.
Organizers require a headlamp or flashlight for all participants and recommend reflective clothing. The event is cup free so runners must provide their own reusable hydration solution or use a hydration pack. Aid stations are provided on course, with about five stations that include toilets, water, Gnarly Hydrate, Honey Stinger gels, and basic first aid; a medic is typically stationed near mile nine.
The event is not wheelchair or stroller friendly. The course uses chip timing with a four hour time limit. All finishers receive a finisher medal and place medals are awarded to top finishers overall and by age group. An expo and bib pickup are held at the campground on race day.
