John Wayne Grit Series - Newport Coast
The John Wayne Grit Series Newport Coast is a trail running event held at Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach. The event offers three loop courses that start and finish at the bridge in the lower parking lot. The course runs on dirt roads and single track trails and includes hill climbs and ocean views. The park elevation is listed as 1,033 ft. The event benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation; proceeds support cancer research and related programs.

Packet pickup is mandatory on May 6, 2027 at Road Runner Sports Costa Mesa, 1835 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627. Each participant packet includes a bib, a John Wayne Grit Series shirt, and other items; finisher mugs are distributed at the finish line. Cancer survivors who register may receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last.
The event is cup less. Runners should bring a hydration pack or handheld bottle with a wide opening so volunteers can refill bottles at aid stations. Filled water bottles will be available for finishers. Parking is available inside the park for a fee paid by QR code on a phone; LAZ parking charges an additional transaction fee. Parking assignments direct 50K runners to El Moro lot and 25K/5K runners to Reef Point and Los Trancos lots with shuttles to the start.
