John Wayne Grit Series - Newport Coast
The John Wayne Grit Series at Newport Coast is an in-person trail running event at Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach, California on May 9, 2026. The course includes hill climbs and ocean views on dirt roads and single-track trails. Both loop courses start and finish at the bridge in the park's lower parking lot. The park elevation is listed as 1,033 ft.

Packet pickup is scheduled the Thursday before the event at Road Runner Sports Costa Mesa and again on event day at the Crystal Cove lower parking lot. Race packets include a bib and a participant shirt; finisher mugs and finisher shirts are distributed at the finish line. Cancer survivors who register may receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last. The event is cup less; participants should bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack. Filled water bottles will be available for finishers at the finish line. Parking is available inside the park for a fee; the park accepts credit card only. Additional event features include podium awards for the top three female and top three male finishers on each course, special "I run for..." bibs for honoring others, and merchandise available at the event.
