John Wayne Grit Series - Newport Coast
The John Wayne Grit Series in Newport Coast is a trail event at Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach, California. The course follows dirt roads and single track trails with hill climbs and ocean views. Both loop courses start and finish at the bridge in the park's lower parking lot. Packet pickup is mandatory on May 7, 2026 at Road Runner Sports Costa Mesa, 1835 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627; packets include a bib, a John Wayne Grit Series participant shirt, and other items. Participants receive a finisher mug at the finish line. Cancer survivors who sign up receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last.
This event is cup less at aid stations; participants should bring a hydration pack or handheld bottles with a large opening. Filled water bottles will be available for finishers at the finish line and a complimentary Nathan water cup can be picked up at the event expo or start area. Parking is available inside the park with a $15 fee paid by phone via QR codes; payment options are Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit card only. Failure to pay may result in a parking ticket. There are podium prizes with three female and three male winners for each course. Event merchandise and race photography services are available on site.
