John Wayne Grit Series - Moab
The John Wayne Grit Series - Moab is a trail running event scheduled for September 26, 2026, that raises funds for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. The event uses single track trails, horse trails, and fire roads through red cliffs, mesas, and grasslands in the Onion Creek trail area, with views of Castle Tower, Priests and Nuns, and Fisher Towers. Both courses start approximately 20 miles outside the town of Moab on the Hollywood Western Equestrian Trails, a filming location for the movie Rio Grande.

The event is cup less; aid stations will not provide cups. Runners should bring a hydration pack or handheld bottle that volunteers can refill. The half marathon includes two full aid stations and one water drop; the 10K includes one full aid station. Finishers receive a shirt and a finisher mug, and there are podium prizes for the top three female and top three male finishers on each course. Cancer survivors who register receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last.
Event weekend activities are centered at Red Cliffs Lodge and include a ticketed dinner paired with regional wine and spirits, a movie premiere, a free community event with live music and food vendors, and a post-run Grit Down / Burger Bash with food and beverage options.
