John Wayne Grit Series – Fort Worth
This is a 5K held on November 7, 2026, in the Fort Worth Stockyards, benefitting the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. The course begins at the "John Wayne: An American Experience" exhibit, follows the cobblestone streets of the Stockyards, continues out along the Trinity Trail with views of the downtown Fort Worth skyline, and finishes back in the Stockyards.
Entry is open to participants ages 10 and up. Each registrant receives a John Wayne Grit Series shirt and a finisher mug at the finish line, plus one entry to the John Wayne exhibit and a shop discount. Cancer survivors who register receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last.
Key event provisions and rules include mandatory packet pickup at the John Wayne exhibit at 2501 Rodeo Plaza in the Fort Worth Stockyards, a cup less policy with no cups at aid stations, and a requirement that runners bring a hydration pack or handheld bottles suitable for refilling. There is an aid station at the 1.5 mile mark that participants pass twice. No pacing and no muling are allowed and will result in disqualification. Dogs and strollers are not permitted. Parking is designated at Lot 2.
The event includes a race component with podium awards for three female and three male winners, on-course photography and video, event merchandise for sale, and fundraising activities with a stated goal of $80,000 and a fundraising week scheduled for October 19 to 25, 2026.
