John Shapiro Superheroes 5K
The John Shapiro Superheroes 5K is an annual community event held at St. Helena School in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. The event serves as a fundraiser for the John Shapiro Superheroes Foundation, which provides financial support to local families with children battling cancer. Proceeds are used to assist families identified by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with needs such as medical transportation, household bills, and lost income.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 5K run
- 1 mile run/walk
- Fun Run for children aged 6 and under
The event schedule includes packet pickup on the evening before the race, with race day registration available at the venue. The morning begins with welcome festivities including the National Anthem and a performance by a student band. The 1 mile event and the 5K run take place on the grounds and surrounding area, followed by a Fun Run for young children on the field behind the school.
An awards ceremony follows the completion of the children's race in front of St. Helena School. After the athletic events, a post-race celebration and community gathering is held at a local restaurant in Blue Bell. Participants who register early are guaranteed an event t-shirt.
