John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon : event overview
The John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon takes place on 7th November 2026. Participants run repeated laps of a well-marked off road loop of 5 km and have six hours to cover as much distance as they can, all under cover of darkness.
Events are offered for solo runners and relay teams of up to three people. The course passes a tented base on each lap where participants can access kit, food, and support. The event environment includes music, lighting, food provision and occasional fire features noted by the organisers.
Volunteer marshals support race operations. Typical marshal duties include course checkpoints, registration, water stations, start and finish area duties, and event set up and take down. Marshals receive a race memento and a donation toward a club or charitable group.
The event has an outlined cancellation and refund policy for weather and other disruptions. In cases of extreme weather the race may be cancelled and, if possible, rescheduled; entries will be transferred to a rescheduled date or rolled to the following year in certain circumstances. Refunds of 75% are available in specified situations. For participant withdrawal before the event there are tiered options: up to 30 days before the event a transfer can be made for a £10 admin fee or a 50% refund may be arranged by email; between 30 and 14 days a transfer can be made for a £10 admin fee or a 25% refund by email; no refunds are given within 14 days or during the event. In the event of abandonment organisers state they are not responsible for travel or accommodation costs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
