Jim Thorpe Run : Albuquerque, NM
The Jim Thorpe Run is a community running event held at the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque. The program includes multiple distances and race formats on paved asphalt surfaces.
Available distances and formats:
- 5k two-loop course, chip timed, elevation gain 3 feet
- 1k Youth Run (age 12 and under), flat with multiple turns, adult lead guide
- 1-mile Fun Walk/Jog/Run, out-and-back, non-timed
- 2-mile Fun Walk/Jog/Run, out-and-back with a water station at the 1-mile mark, non-timed
- Toddler Dash, straight run just under 200 meters, non-timed
Timing is provided by TCR Race Production. The 5k serves as the USATF New Mexico Association 5k Road State Championship for eligible members with 2026 association membership. USATF cash prizes are planned for top finishers by age division; non-cash awards are listed for additional age groups. Age group awards and participant benefits:
- 1- and 2-mile events: no awards
- 5k: top 3 female and male in standard age categories from 14 and under to 70 and up
- 1k Youth Run: awards for top female and male in 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12
- Toddler Dash: all participants receive a goodie bag
Proceeds from the event will support a Sports Warriors Track Club athlete who has qualified for the 2028 USA Olympic Marathon Trials. T-shirt availability is limited to the first 200 entries; desired sizes are only guaranteed for entries received before June 1. Packet pick-up is located at the SIPI campus Hogan; expect parking to require a walk to the Hogan. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
