Eagle Lake Race Series
This community race day in Willmar, Minnesota includes a half marathon, a 5K run/walk, a free kids fun run, and a two person bean bag tournament. The half marathon distance is 13.1 miles and the 5K distance is 5 km.
The half marathon is part of the Glacial Lakes Championship Running Series; official finishers receive a finisher medal and gift and earn series points. The half marathon course is supported for three hours; after that cutoff participants are considered self supported and are not guaranteed an official finish time. All in-person participants in the half marathon are eligible for overall and age group awards.
The 5K welcomes runners and walkers; strollers or wagons are allowed and pets are not permitted. The kids fun run is free for children 10 and under, finishes near the main race finish line, and each participant receives a ribbon. The bean bag tournament is for two person teams and accepts in-person registration, including limited same-day registration.
Race packets include a race T-shirt; participants who register by July 18 are guaranteed a shirt in their chosen size. Proceeds from the series support scholarships for local high school students pursuing post secondary STEM education; a total of $88,000 has been awarded over the past eight years.
