Event Overview
The Columbia Cycling Club has organized the Jailbreak Triathlon since 2002. This event takes place in September and is done with a partner. It consists of three disciplines: canoeing, mountain biking, and trail running.
Participants must compete in pairs. There are two main formats. For a TEAM, both partners complete all three legs, but they do not have to stay together after the canoe; their individual finish times are added together for the final result. For a RELAY, partners canoe together, then one person does the mountain bike leg before tagging their partner to begin the run.
Available categories are: Male Team, Male Team (Combined Ages Over 80), Female Team, Co-ed Team, Male Relay, Female Relay, Co-ed Relay, and eBike Relay (not gender specific).
Course Details
The course starts at a canoe put-in on the Duck River below the Maury County Jail. The event proceeds through Chickasaw Trace County Park for the biking and running portions.
- Canoe: The first leg is a 3.5-mile paddle on the Duck River. Two-person canoes, paddles, and life jackets are provided; personal canoes are not allowed. Life jackets must be worn. Participants must carry the canoe (approximately 80 lbs) with their partner to the river.
- Mountain Bike: The second leg is a 7.5-mile loop on the park's single-track trails. It includes technical sections and tough climbs. Helmets are required. Participants are advised to have prior mountain bike trail experience.
- Trail Run: The final leg is a 2.65-mile run on a relatively flat portion of the trail, though it includes some terrain challenges and hills. An optional section called the "Death Ditch" may be used in dry conditions.
