Fill the Shoes 5K
The Fill the Shoes 5K is an annual community run/walk held in the Hayfield Farm neighborhood of Alexandria, VA, with start and finish at Hayfield Park and a course made up of multiple loops through the neighborhood. The event benefits the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; 100% of net proceeds are directed to PanCAN and donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of U.S. tax codes.
This is the 15th annual edition. Organizers report more than 67,000 dollars raised to date, about 15 years of events, and typically 150+ runners per year. Race services include chip timing and scoring provided by Reston Road Runners, with official results available on site after the event and posted online within 24 hours.
All registrants receive a long-sleeve technical moisture-wicking race shirt and a Fill the Shoes car magnet. Awards include pint glasses for top three male and female finishers in five-year age groups and overall top three male and female winners. Age group awards cover ranges from Under 10 through 70 and over.
Registration pricing and deadlines are published: $30 through October 12, $35 through November 5, with on-site or packet pickup registration at $40 (cash or check only). Online registration closes at 10:00pm on November 5. Packet pickup is available Friday, November 6, 12:00pm-6:00pm at Fill the Shoes HQ (7628 Hayfield Rd) or race morning 6:45am-7:30am at Hayfield Park.
Parking is available on neighborhood streets with some restrictions, and additional parking is located at a nearby shopping center and Hayfield Elementary School. The event is supported by community sponsors and volunteers and includes a post-race party with food and raffle prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
