About the race
The Fill the Shoes 5K is an annual community run and walk held in Hayfield Park in the Hayfield Farm neighborhood of Alexandria, VA 22315. The event typically takes place on the first Saturday of every November and is organized as a neighborhood loop course that starts and ends at Hayfield Park.
The event raises funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Organizers state that 100% of all net proceeds are donated to PanCAN at the end of the year and that donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of U.S. tax codes. The event has run for 15 years and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the cause.
Registrants receive a long sleeve technical moisture wicking race shirt and a Fill the Shoes car magnet. Pint glass awards are given to the top three overall men and women and to the top three men and women in five year age groups, with age categories from Under 10 up through 65-69 and 70 and over. Timing and scoring are provided by Reston Road Runners and results are made available on site after the event and online within 24 hours.
Online registration deadlines, fees, and packet pickup are published by the organizers. Packet pickup is offered at the event headquarters the day before the race and on race morning. Street parking is available in Hayfield Farm with additional parking at a nearby shopping center and at Hayfield Elementary School. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
