Ivoryton Pumpkin Chase
The Ivoryton Pumpkin Chase is a running event with two main components: a 5K road and trail race and a free Kiddie Pumpkin Fun Run for children aged seven and under. It is scheduled for a Saturday in October during the peak foliage season of southern New England. The proceeds benefit the Ivoryton Library.
Course Details
The 5K course starts on North Main Street, runs for about half a mile, and then turns onto Falls River Drive. Around the one-mile mark, it enters the Falls River Preserve for a 1.1-mile trail loop alongside the Falls River. The trail section begins as a double-track path before becoming a hilly and rocky single-track with jagged rocks and roots. The event notes that the trail can be slippery in wet conditions.
Registration and Amenities
Registration is conducted online. A free event t-shirt is included for 5K participants who register by a specified date in September; t-shirts for later registrants are subject to availability. There is a discount for group registrations of four people. Children in the fun run receive a voucher for a free book from the Ivoryton Library.
The event aims to be a zero-waste race and encourages participants to bring a reusable water bottle. Water is available at the start, finish, and at the one and two-mile markers.
Awards
Awards are given to the overall male and female winners, as well as to winners in multiple age categories ranging from 1-9 years to 70+ years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
