45th Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run
The Iroquois Hill Runners Thanksgiving Day Run is a long-standing athletic tradition held in Louisville at Iroquois Park. This annual event offers participants three distinct distances to choose from, catering to different preferences for running or walking through the park grounds.
Available distances include:
- 5 Mile Run/Walk
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1.25 Mile Run/Walk
The courses utilize the roads of Iroquois Park. Participants should note that roadways remain open during the event to allow access to the local golf course, and runners are required to use the pedestrian path while on the back side of the park. Pets are permitted to participate provided they are kept on a leash, start at the back of the group, and remain on the right side of the road.
The event features various competitions beyond the races, including a costume contest where participants are encouraged to wear festive attire such as holiday sweaters or themed outfits. Registered participants receive a long-sleeve shirt and entry into a prize drawing.
Awards are specifically designated for the 5 Mile distance. These include cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as age group awards in five-year brackets ranging from 14 and under to 75 and older. Special recognition is also given to the oldest male and female participants and the first finisher with a stroller. No competitive awards are issued for the 5K or 1.25 Mile events. On-site amenities include coffee, hot chocolate, and apple cider for participants and spectators. Limited parking is available at the Iroquois Amphitheater lot, with overflow options located at Colonial Gardens and DeSales High School.
