The Iron Furnace Trail Runs is a spring trail event at Lake Hope State Park and Zaleski State Forest near McArthur, Ohio, held on April 4, 2026. Starting in 2025 the start and finish moved to the Lake Hope State Park Beach Parking Lot; the course uses singletrack trails through rugged forest and lakeside areas.

Distances:

  • 13.1 miles (half marathon)
  • 5 miles

The 13.1 mile course measures 13.49 miles with 2,185 feet of elevation gain, including about 12.10 miles of singletrack and 1.4 miles of pavement. Aid stations are located near miles 2.93 and 8.05; there is a 3 hour cutoff at the 8.05 mile aid station. The 5 mile course measures 5.11 miles with 587 feet of elevation gain, about 4 miles of singletrack and a 0.5 mile pavement section, and an aid station near mile 3.1.

The event is limited to 250 combined participants; registration is online only and may move to a waitlist if capacity is reached. Walkers are permitted but should note the half marathon has a course cutoff and the event closes 4.5 hours after the start.

Every finisher receives a wooden finisher award. Registration includes a soft short-sleeve race shirt if registered by March 1 for a guaranteed size. The event operates under special use permits from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
