About the race
For more than 40 years the Irish Jig has marked the start of Michigan’s racing season. The event in Grand Rapids on March 20, 2027 offers in-person and virtual participation and includes activities that support health-related resources.

Registration and fees
- 5K registration opens 09/01/2026 and closes 10/31/2026. Fee: $35.00.
- Kids 800 m registration opens 09/01/2026 and closes 03/19/2027. Fee: $15.00.
- Virtual race registration opens 09/01/2026 and closes 03/14/2027. Fee: $30.00. The virtual option includes a shirt that will be mailed out on race weekend.
Additional event details Walking the 5K course is allowed; participants must complete the route within 75 minutes. The 2026 edition marked a formal shift to raise resources addressing cancer and highlighted the statistic that one in two people will face cancer in their lifetime.
