Independence Day 10K Trail Run
The Independence Day 10K is a scenic 10K trail running race in Breckenridge held on July 4 as part of the town's holiday celebration. The 2026 edition features a new start location on Main Street. The event is presented by Gravity Haus and operates under a special use permit from the USDA Forest Service and the White River National Forest. Entry is limited to 500 participants and the race typically sells out in June.
Registration and race items are handled through online and in-person options. Online registration closes the day before the race; bib and t-shirt pick up and in-person registration are available at Carter Park on July 3 and on race morning at the Main Street start. T-shirts are provided to the first 500 registrants and sizes are distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Fees listed for the event are Adults 18+ $50 and Youth 17 and under $30. Deferral requests must be submitted at least eight days before the race.
Course operations include marshals at Barney Ford, about two miles into the course, who may make adjustments for individual participants. A strict time cutoff is enforced and some runners may be placed on a shortened course. Air quality is monitored and the course or start may be adjusted if conditions require. Parking is limited; covered parking is available at the South Gondola Parking Structure and the Stephen C. West Ice Arena is an alternate about a seven minute walk to Main Street.
