INDEPENDENCE 4K
The Independence 4K is a race held on July 4, 2026, that starts and finishes at Archer Park, 101 N. Main St, McAllen, TX 78501. The event opens the city's Independence Day activities and is scheduled to coincide with the Independence Day Parade and a subsequent Freedom Festival at the same site.
Participants are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. The Freedom Festival includes food trucks, inflatable games, a petting zoo, and family-friendly activities located near the race finish and parade route.
The race distance is 4K. Registered participants receive a participant shirt, a finisher medal, and a runner bib. Entrants must be at least 9 years old. Awards are presented by gender and by age group, including overall male and female winners; top three places are recognized in each listed age division. Runners will be recognized with award plaques.
Registration was online only and closed on Wednesday, July 1, 2026; no registrations were accepted after that date or after the event reached maximum capacity. The registration fee was $35. Packet pickup was scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Town Lake at Firemen’s Park - Pumphouse, 201 N. 1st Street, and was not available on race day. A representative could pick up a packet with a copy of the registrant’s valid photo ID showing date of birth.
If the event is cancelled or rescheduled for reasons beyond the organizer's control, entry fees are not refundable. Transfer or refund requests had to be emailed to the event administrator no later than 14 days prior to race day; no transfers or refunds were accepted after that deadline.
