ICF 2026 GLOBAL "IN THEIR SHOES 5K" Run/Walk to Benefit Orphans & Vulnerable Children
This event on August 29, 2026 is offered as a 5K run/walk with both an in person option at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA and a virtual option for participants elsewhere. The in person course starts and ends in Burke Lake Park at 7315 Ox Road; parking is at Shelter C. The organizer provides GPS coordinates 38.757432, -77.300404. Directions to Shelter C note to go straight after the gatehouse, take the first right, pass the pavilion and volleyball courts, then enter the parking lot on the right.
Registration opens February 20, 2026 and closes May 31, 2026. Fees listed are $25 for the in person 5K and $15 for the virtual 5K. There are no race day registrations.
Course support includes two water stations at approximately mile markers 0.7 and 2.4. Restrooms are located by the parking lot at Shelter A. Live results will be posted on Athlinks and a QR code at the race will allow immediate result access; final race results with series points will be posted the Monday following the event.
Awards are presented to the top overall female and top overall male, the top overall girl and top overall boy under 18, and to the largest 5K team and the biggest fundraiser. The event proceeds benefit the Iraqi Children Foundation, a US based tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization that provides education, legal protection, nutrition, rescue from the streets and child labor, medical and disability care, and recreational activities for orphans and vulnerable children across Iraq. The event will proceed in ordinary weather and is subject to cancellation for dangerous conditions; no refunds are offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
