About the race
The In Their Shoes 5K is a community run and virtual event on August 29, 2026, held to benefit Iraqi orphans and vulnerable children. The in person course starts and ends in Burke Lake Park, 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039, with parking at Shelter C and restrooms near the parking lot at Shelter A. Two participation options are offered: an in person 5K at Burke Lake Park and a virtual 5K with reported locations posted globally.
Registration opens February 20 and closes May 31; the listed registration fees are $25.00 for the in person event and $15.00 for the virtual event. There are no race day registrations. Check in and shirt pickup take place before the event between 7:00 and 7:45. Course services and event procedures include live results posted on Athlinks, a QR code on site for immediate results access, and final race results with series points posted the Monday following the event.
Water stations are planned at approximately mile markers 0.7 and 2.4 and may be adjusted. Awards are given to top overall female and male competitors and to the top overall girl and boy under 18, as well as recognitions for the largest 5K team and the biggest fundraiser.
