ICF 2026 GLOBAL "IN THEIR SHOES 5K" Run/Walk
The event is the 14th annual 5K run/walk held on August 29, 2026 to benefit Iraqi orphans and vulnerable children. It is offered as an in-person event at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA, and as a virtual 5K with global participation.
The in-person course starts and ends in Burke Lake Park at 7315 Ox Road. Parking is at Shelter C; after the gatehouse take the first right, go past the pavilion and volleyball courts, and the parking lot is on the right. A GPS pin is provided: 38.757432, -77.300404. Restrooms are available by the parking lot at Shelter A. An after-party with snacks, music, and other activities follows the in-person event.
Check-in occurs before the event so participants can collect race shirts; there are no race day registrations. Registration opens February 20, 2026 and closes May 31, 2026. Published fees are $25.00 for the in-person 5K and $15.00 for the virtual 5K.
Two water stations will be positioned along the 5K course at approximately mile markers 0.7 and 2.4; locations are subject to change. Live results will be posted on Athlinks.com and a QR code at the race will allow immediate result viewing. Final results with series points will be posted to the organizer’s website on the Monday after the race. Awards include top overall female and male, top girl and boy under 18, largest 5K team, and biggest fundraiser. The event proceeds support the Iraqi Children Foundation, a US-based, nonpartisan, nonsectarian tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
