Event Overview

The In Their Shoes 5K Run/Walk is an annual event scheduled for August 29, 2026. This is the 14th edition of the event. Its purpose is to raise funds for the Iraqi Children Foundation (ICF), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that supports orphans and vulnerable children in Iraq through programs in education, legal protection, nutrition, and rescue from street labor.

Participation Options

Participants can choose between two formats:

In-Person 5K: The event takes place at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia. A course map is available for the Burke Lake 5K run/walk route.
Virtual 5K: Participants can complete a 5K distance from any location worldwide.

Check-in for the in-person event begins at 8:00 AM. Registration is not available on the day of the event. The event is held regardless of weather conditions unless there is dangerous weather. The organizers state there are no refunds.

Supporting the Cause

Awards are presented to the largest participating 5K team and to the individual or team that raises the most funds. Participants are encouraged to form teams or start independent fundraisers for the cause.
