In Flanders Fields Marathon
The vzw IFFmarathon organises the annual In Flanders Fields Marathon, scheduled for Sunday 20 September 2026, as it is held each year on the third Sunday of September. The 2026 edition is the 26th running of the event. The organiser presents it as the only official marathon in the Westhoek and states it is the flattest marathon in Belgium; the marathon distance is officially measured at 42,195 km with a Jones counter by a recognised measurer.
The route runs through the protected IJzervallei and along the IJzer and Ieperlee between Diksmuide and Ieper, passing places such as Tervate and Stuivekenskerke. The marathon start is given on the market of Diksmuide; the half marathon starts and finishes near the Grote Markt of Ieper. The event also emphasises a remembrance theme linked to the First World War battlefields known as Flanders Fields.
Practical details published by the organiser include entry limits and deadlines: registrations are open until 1 August or until places are filled, with a capacity of 750 runners for the marathon and 500 for the half marathon. Pacers are provided. A relay option exists for teams of five runners. The event names a charity beneficiary for 2026, Kom op tegen kanker (KOTK).
