Hyner Trail Challenge
The Hyner Trail Challenge is a trail running event on April 17, 2027 in Hyner, Pennsylvania at 9650 Renovo Road. It is organized by PA Trail Dogs and offers the following distances:
- 50K
- 25K
Registration closes on February 17 at 11:59 PM ET. The event enforces a zero tolerance policy for registration rules: there are no refunds, deferrals, bib switches, transfers, or bandits. Contesting the rules can result in a ban from PA Trail Dogs events. If a waitlist exists, organizers may prioritize entrants who volunteer or who have previously run Trail Dog events.
Course management uses firm cutoffs to control finish times. For the 25K runners or hikers must reach the View at mile 4 by 11:30 AM and the mile 8.5 aid station by 2:00 PM or they will be pulled, which ensures a nine hour finish. For the 50K runners must reach mile 7.5 by 10:30 AM or they will be directed onto the 25K course, and additional cutoffs apply at mile 17 by 1:00 PM and mile 25 by 3:15 PM to ensure a ten hour finish. The 50K requires a trail appropriate qualifier showing capability of completing 31 miles in under ten hours; road races are not accepted as qualifiers.
Bib pickup is available Friday April 16 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday April 17 with separate windows for each distance. There is no electricity or water at the site so participants should fill packs and bottles before arriving. An ice trailer will be on site behind the registration tent if needed. Organizers do not hire course photographers; volunteer photos are typically shared on the Hyner Facebook page and the PA Trail Dogs website after the event.
The course is remote with no parking and narrow mountain roads. Spectator access points are limited. For the 25K the only accessible aid station for spectators is Hyner View State Park at mile 4. For the 50K spectator access areas are Hyner View State Park at mile 3 and Hyner Run State Park at mile 10 and mile 25. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
