Tantalus Triple Trek 2026
Tantalus Triple Trek on September 12, 2026 is a trail running event of close to 30 miles composed of three identical Trek loops. Each loop starts and ends at the Hawai’i Nature Center aid station.
A Trek loop follows Kanealole (Center/Pipe) trail across Makiki Valley trail, then up and along Moleka, Manoa Cliff, and Kalawahine trails, continues along Tantalus Drive, descends Nahuina trail, crosses Makiki Valley trail again, and returns down Maunalaha trail (Hogsback) to the start/finish area. The course map notes a slight course change due to a landslide.
The course will be marked with ORANGE ribbon from the start to the apex (the top pig gate on Manoa Cliff trail) and WHITE ribbon for the return; BLUE indicates hazardous or closed sections. Course marshals will staff major intersections only during the first loop. Runners are expected to know the course or follow the provided map.
Entrants must be 18 years of age or older. The event is cupless; participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle. Parking is not allowed beyond the Makiki Forest Recreation Area sign and street parking is limited. All runners must check in at the start/finish check-in table before beginning the event. Assigned bibs must be displayed on the front of the body. Portable restrooms are available at the start/finish.
There are two aid stations at the Maunalaha-Kanealoloe trailhead and the Kalawahine trailhead. Both stations will offer water, Skratch sports drink, fruit, and various salty and sweet items. Runners must carry at least 24 ounces of water and supply their own gels and electrolytes; no oral medications will be provided. Crewing is allowed only at the two aid stations and pacers are not permitted.
A nine hour time limit applies for completing three loops; specific cutoffs govern the start of the final loop and passage at the Kalawahine aid station. Because sunrise will not be until after 6 am, a personal light source is recommended for early trail navigation. The course crosses public roadways; runners should be cautious at crossings and respectful of other trail users. Littering may result in disqualification. If a participant withdraws, they should inform race staff before leaving the premises.
Post race provisions include a warm meal, bottled water, and additional snacks. Alcohol is not permitted at the venue. Finisher items and fastest time awards for the top three finishers in each category will be distributed by the race directors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
