Hungryland
Hungryland is a trail running event held at Hungryland Slough Natural Area in West Palm Beach, FL. The event uses a single 14.3 mile loop that travels through management roads and paths across pine flatwoods, prairies, swamps, hammocks, and marshes within the roughly 3,000 acre natural area.
Participants choose between two timed race options:
- 33 Hour Jogger Slogger
- 6 Hour Runner Gunner
The course is primarily double-track with dirt roads, hard packed grassy areas, and softer runnable paths near wetlands. The route is flat with no significant elevation gain. Aid is available on loop with full aid at the start/finish and additional manned and unmanned water or fuel stations distributed so runners will not go more than about three to four miles without some form of support. A midloop full aid station will offer drop bag access; exact locations and number of stations may change if reroutes are required for safety or due to weather.
The natural area is environmentally sensitive and access is limited to 75 entrants. Course conditions can vary widely with weather, ranging from dry and dusty to wet and muddy; the organizer notes possible reroutes and changes to aid and support based on those conditions. Pacers are permitted beginning at dusk and through the night. Event rules prohibit smoking, drugs, firearms, removal of vegetation, feeding or harassing wildlife, bicycles, horses, alcohol, pets, and littering. Refund and deferral terms apply as stated by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
