Humboldt Redwoods Marathon
The Humboldt Redwoods Marathon is an annual road race held among old growth redwood trees. The event date listed is Sunday, October 10, 2027. The organizers describe the race as an independently green organization and one of the few remaining marathons not associated with corporate sponsors.
Distances offered include:
- Marathon: double out and back on paved roads, USATF certified, Boston Qualifier.
- Half Marathon: out and back on paved roads, lined with 300 feet tall redwood trees.
- 5K: shorter paved road race; only first place trophies are presented in the 5K.
The courses run entirely on paved roads. The full marathon is described as mostly flat with a gentle uphill and a certified course suitable for Boston qualifying. Tall redwood trees line the roads, providing shade and cooler morning temperatures; the trees can sometimes block GPS signals on running watches. Finishers receive medals, overall prizes are awarded to top finishing male and female in each event, and age group awards are given in ten year increments.
