Avenue of the Giants Marathon
The Avenue of the Giants Marathon takes place in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, located in Northern California. The event features a course set on a paved road that winds through old growth redwood forests and follows a natural creek. The terrain is primarily flat with some gentle uphill sections.
Participants can choose from three different race distances:
- 26.2 Miles (Marathon)
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 10K (10 Kilometers)
The marathon course is certified and serves as a Boston Qualifying event. Runners participating in the full marathon must complete the distance within a six hour time limit. Additionally, a mid-point cutoff requires marathon participants to reach the half way mark within three hours. Those who do not reach this point in the allotted time are redirected to the finish line and recorded in the half marathon results.
The 10K event is open to both runners and walkers. All race distances take place within the rural environment of the state park, characterized by tall trees and natural scenery. Registration for the event typically closes several months prior to the race date, and a waitlist system is utilized once the field reaches capacity. The event is organized by a local running club and shares a course with the Humboldt Redwoods Marathon held in the fall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
