About the race
The Hot August Night Trail Race is a night-time running event held in the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee Forest. The course is situated at the Holder Mine Campground in Inverness, Florida. Participants navigate single-track trails composed of packed sand or surfaces covered in pine needles, featuring occasional gentle elevations.
The event offers three distinct distance options:
- 5 Miles: A single 5-mile loop.
- 10 Miles: A single 10-mile loop.
- 20 Miles: Two 10-mile loops.
Due to the evening setting, all participants must use a headlamp or flashlight during the race. The course is marked for visibility using reflective pins and glow sticks. For the 20 Mile distance, runners must begin their second loop by 8:30 pm. All course distances close at 11:00 pm.
Support is provided through various aid stations. The 5 Mile loop includes a hydration station at approximately 2.4 miles. The 10 Mile loop features both a hydration station and a staffed aid station on the course. All participants have access to an aid station at the finish line and a post-race picnic. Finishers receive a handcrafted medal. On-site accommodation is available through RV and tent sites at the Holder Mine Campground. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
