Horsethief Canyon Trail Run
The Horsethief Canyon Trail Run is a 10K trail race held on September 11, 2027, in Marquette, KS. The course starts at the Buffalo Tracks Trailhead in Kanopolis State Park and follows the Horsethief Canyon Trail. Runners will encounter a mix of terrain including hills, rocky sections, sand, and as many as five shallow water crossings. The route begins with about one half mile of road, followed by approximately six miles of trail; the trail portion may be shorter if water levels are high.
Registration opens January 1, 2027. Race day registration begins at the start location at 8:00 AM. Entry fees differ by option: $25 without a shirt and $40 with a shirt. Park access requires a day use permit of $5.00 per vehicle unless the entrant already has a Kansas Parks permit.
Facilities at the trailhead include restrooms. Camping areas and showers are available within one mile of the day use area. One self-serve water stop will be provided on the trail; participants are asked to dispose of cups in the provided trash box. Snacks and drinks will be available at the finish area.
Awards include trophies for the overall top men and women, top three finishers in each age group, and completion awards for all who finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
