Horsethief Canyon Trail Run
The Horsethief Canyon Trail Run is a 10K held on September 12, 2026, in Marquette, KS, at the Buffalo Tracks Trailhead in Kanopolis State Park. The event uses the Horsethief Canyon Trail, a multi-use equestrian, hiking, and mountain bike route that includes hills, rocky sections, sand, and up to five shallow water crossings. The course begins with roughly one half mile of road followed by approximately six miles of trail; the trail distance may be reduced if water levels are high.
Race day registration is available. Entry fees listed for race day are $25 without a shirt and $40 with a shirt. A day use permit is required for park entry and is available at the pay booth or park office for $5 per vehicle; holders of a Kansas Parks permit are exempt from the day permit fee.
Amenities at the event include restroom facilities at the trailhead, a self serve water stop on the trail, and snacks and drinks at the finish. Camping areas and showers are located within about one mile of the Horsethief Canyon day use area. Awards are presented for overall men's and women's winners and for the top three finishers in each age group. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
