Horsethief Canyon Trail Run
The event is a 10K trail run held on the Horsethief Canyon Trail in Kanopolis State Park near Marquette, KS, starting at the Buffalo Tracks Trailhead. The course uses a multi use equestrian, hiking, and mountain bike trail and includes hills, rocky sections, sand, and as many as five shallow water crossings. There is approximately one half mile of road at the start followed by about six miles of trail; the trail portion may be shorter under high water conditions.
Entrants must purchase a day use permit for $5.00 per vehicle at the park pay booth or office unless they already have a Kansas Parks permit. Race day registration is available at the start location. Entry fees are $25 without a shirt and $40 with a shirt.
Facilities at the trailhead include restrooms, and camping areas and showers are within one mile of the day use area. One self serve water stop will be provided on the trail; participants are asked to dispose of cups in the provided trash box. Snacks and drinks are supplied at the end of the run.
After the event awards are given for overall men and women plus the top three finishers in each age group. The trailhead is marked B on park maps and the access road to the trailhead is paved for 3.6 miles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
