Horsethief Canyon Trail Run - Marquette, KS
The Horsethief Canyon Trail Run takes place on September 12, 2026, at Kanopolis State Park with the course using the Horsethief Canyon Trail and beginning at the Buffalo Tracks Trailhead. The advertised distance is 10K.
The trail is a multi-use route for equestrian, hiking, and mountain bike use. Course features include hills, rocky sections, stretches of sand and up to five shallow water crossings. The route includes about one half mile of road at the start, followed by approximately six miles of trail. Trail length may be reduced if high water conditions occur.
Participants should be prepared for one self serve water stop on the trail and for restroom facilities at the trailhead. Camping areas and showers are available within one mile of the day use area. Snacks and drinks will be provided after the run; cups should be placed in the trash box provided and no littering is allowed.
Directions note that the Horsethief Trailhead is reached via Horsethief Drive from the Venango Park turn off K-141, with 3.6 miles of paved road to the trailhead, which is marked B on park maps. A day use permit of $5.00 per vehicle is required at the park pay booth unless the vehicle displays a Kansas Parks permit.
