The Hopwood Trot
The Hopwood Trot is a multi-terrain running event located on the outskirts of Middleton in Greater Manchester. The course covers a distance of approximately 8.8 km (five and a half miles). Participants navigate a variety of surfaces, including paths, tracks, and country lanes that surround the historic Hopwood Hall. Due to the nature of the terrain, the course is not suitable for wheelchairs.
The event starts on the sports field adjoining the Hopwood College Sports Pavilion. Participants collect their race numbers and timing chips from the registration area located inside the college sports hall before moving to the start line. The race follows a route through the local countryside before returning to the college grounds.
Participation is open to runners aged 16 or older on the day of the event. The race has a strict entry limit of 200 participants. Awards are presented to the first three male and female finishers, as well as the winners of individual age categories. There are also designated team prizes for both male and female groups. The event is organized by the Middleton Harriers and utilizes electronic chip timing for results. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
