Hope Fest 5K Walk/Run
The annual Hope Fest 5K Walk/Run and Kids Fun Run takes place on the grounds of the Community of Faith Church in Marion, Illinois. The event is situated near the airport, approximately 300 yards from the southeast corner of Route 13 and Route 148. The course is designed to be flat and fast, consisting entirely of asphalt and concrete surfaces. Both the start and finish lines are located in the same general area.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5 km running race
- 5 km walking event
- 1/2 mile (approximately 1 km) Kids Fun Run for ages 10 and under
The event serves as a fundraiser for the Hands of Hope Foundation and the Herrin House of Hope. Proceeds support the Phase 2 Project, which includes the development of a commodities distribution center, a community wellness clinic, a mobile clinic, and an emergency shelter in Herrin, Illinois. These initiatives operate alongside existing community services such as meal programs, a thrift store, food distribution, and job training programs.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female runners overall, as well as the top three finishers in 10-year age groups. The top three male and female walkers also receive awards. In the children's event, the top three finishers are recognized, and every participant in the Kids Fun Run receives a finisher's award. Registration includes a dedicated event t-shirt and a wristband for admission to the larger Hope Fest festivities held on the same day.
