Hoof-It For Heroes
Hoof-It For Heroes is a community event presented by EquiCenter to raise awareness of veteran and active military suicide, a national statistic cited as 22 deaths per day. The event offers both in person and virtual participation centered on a distance of 2.2 miles.
The in person option takes place on the trails at EquiCenter in Honeoye Falls and includes an opening ceremony led by local veterans groups. The event includes a remembrance of World War I ending at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. Complimentary post-event refreshments will be available. In person participation is limited to humans; horses and dogs may take part in the virtual challenge.
The virtual challenge runs from November 8 through November 30 and invites participants to complete 2.2 miles by running, walking, horseback riding, or another form of activity. Participants are encouraged to document their activity with photos for event features.
Registration details include a general fee of $22 and veteran registration options at no cost. Students receive a 50 percent discount using the code STUDENT. EquiCenter is a nonprofit organization that offers free veteran programs such as Mission Mustang, Cooking with Heroes, and therapeutic horticulture, and the event supports those local veteran services.
