Hood & Portland To Coast Relay
The Providence Hood & Portland To Coast Relay, known as the Mother of All Relays, draws teams from over 40 countries and all 50 states. The event is organized as a long distance team relay in Oregon with two course options and rotating legs.
Teams consist of 8 to 12 members, most commonly 12, and travel with two support vans. Each team member runs or walks assigned legs in a fixed rotation and must carry or wear required race gear and identification during the relay.
Distances:
- 196 miles for the Hood To Coast route
- 128 miles for the Portland To Coast route
Safety and conduct rules include a required emergency contact on the race bib, use of a flashlight or headlamp and LED flashers during low light, reflective gear during morning hours, and restrictions on bicycles, dogs, and open alcohol containers in vehicles. Teams are responsible for first aid supplies and water; aid stations are not guaranteed. Radios are stationed at exchange points and exchange leaders can summon emergency medical assistance if needed. Sleeping is allowed only in designated sleeping fields; small tents are permitted except at Exchange 30. Penalties and disqualification can result from rule violations, unsafe conduct, or failure to follow race official instructions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
