Event overview
The Hone Quarry Ultra is a trail endurance race held on March 28, 2026, in Dayton, Virginia. The course begins and ends at Briery Branch and passes into the George Washington National Forest. Participation is limited to 125 runners under the event's permit.
Course and logistics
The course is a large loop with some out-and-back sections. Distance is 41.4 miles with approximately 8,000 feet of ascent and 8,000 feet of descent. Terrain includes single-track, cliff walls, open meadows, waterfalls, and several named features such as Hidden Rocks trail, "Lover's Leap" Overlook, Hone Quarry Falls, HQ Reservoir, and Flagpole Knob. The race is a technical mountain event with multiple ridge climbs and descents. Crews and pacers are not allowed due to remote access. Drop bags are allowed at Union Springs (mile 12.7), HQ (mile 19.5), and Big Hollow (mile 29.2). There are six fully stocked aid stations. Entry, cutoff and prizes
Registration closes on March 21, 2026. The race has a cutoff of 13 hours and 15 minutes. All registrations are non-refundable; transfers to another runner are allowed. Registrants may request a one-year deferral if made before March 1, 2026. Male and female top three finishers receive podium awards and prize money: 1st $125, 2nd $100, 3rd $75.
