Event Overview
The Holland Turkey Trot 5K is a Thanksgiving Day tradition held in downtown Holland, Michigan. This community event features a scenic route through the city center and is open to runners, walkers, and families. The race expects to host approximately 1,000 participants and center-city streets, including 7th and 8th Street, are closed for the duration of the event.
Course Details
The 5 km route begins on 8th Street between Central Avenue and College Avenue. Participants run through the downtown area, turning onto Central Avenue and E 7th Street before heading toward Lincoln Avenue. A notable feature of the course is a Section through Windmill Island Gardens, where the path passes within five feet of the historic De Zwaan Windmill. The race concludes by heading back along Lincoln Avenue and E 8th Street, taking participants through three blocks of downtown shops to the original starting line. As the event takes place in late November, the course may contain snow, and specific sections like the path on Windmill Island are not plowed.
Participant Information
All registrants receive a custom Holland Turkey Trot T-shirt and an exclusive finisher medal. The race is professionally timed with individual bibs. An awards ceremony follows the event, recognizing the top three finishers in each age group. There is no race-day registration or packet pickup; participants must collect their materials at designated times on the Tuesday or Wednesday preceding the event.
