Event Overview

The Hold the Fort event is a road running race held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. Participants can choose between different distances including a 10k, a 5k, and a 1 mile walk. The courses for all three distances utilize the same route layout within the park grounds.

The race starts at the Dogwood Pavilion, with access through the front gate of the park. Registration include the park admission fee for participants. Packet pick-up is organized both on the day before the event at a local restaurant in Pelham and on the morning of the race at the park pavilion.

Available distances:

  • 10k: A timed road race.
  • 5k: A timed road race.
  • 1 mile: A non-timed walk known as the Warrior Walk.

Competition and Proceeds

Both the 10k and 5k races are officially timed. Top overall male and female finishers in both distances are eligible for cash prizes, and there are additional awards across 14 different categories. The first 200 participants to register are provided with an event t-shirt.

All financial proceeds from the registration fees are donated to Blanket Fort Hope, a non-profit organization. The funds are designated for the construction and operation of a restoration home for children rescued from human trafficking, as well as for community training and advocacy programs.
