About the race
The HKY 100 Mile Ultra Trail Race in Hickory, North Carolina is an inaugural 100 mile event offered to solo runners and teams of 2 to 10 people. The route is a repeated 4-mile loop that leads participants along double-track farm trails, single-track hiking trails, the newly created Aviation Trail, and through Winkler Park into the Hickory Crawdads stadium where the start and finish are located.
The full course covers 100 miles and more than 17,230 feet of elevation gain. The surface is approximately 70% trail and 30% paved. Runners will encounter several short steep climbs, two longer climbs of about 0.65 miles each, descents, tight turns, roots, rocks and other trail features. A portion of the double-track farm trails is believed to be old moonshine roads.
The course will be marked for navigation with cones, arrow signs and reflective tape to assist night running.
